If you like beautiful short poems, you should consider looking at some Japanese poems written in Haiku style, I in particular liked the Japanese Haiku Death poems. As the name suggests those poems are written by people on the verge of dieing.

Fukyu

A bright and pleasant
autumn day to make
death’s journey.

aki no hiyori o
shide no tabi

Fields dying off:
the underside of grasses frozen
